Columbia Journalism Review: The Existential Issue, 2021
Web Design, Animation, Photo Direction

Columbia Journalism Review is a quarterly magazine which leads, critiques, and supports the rapidly changing field of American journalism. Since its founding in 1961, Columbia Journalism Review has been an essential leader in its field, not only for journalists but countless other members in communications, technology, and academia.

The Existential Issue, Columbia Journalism Review's first all-digital magazine issue, asks one elemental question: what is journalism?

For this special issue, my team and I at Point Five worked closely with the editors of Columbia Journalism Review to create a custom, free microsite that explores the current state of journalism through a multimedia lens. Taking advantage of a the interactive nature of digital design, I worked to reimagine CJR in a new medium, by drawing on its print foundations and translating them into web—placing emphasis on the magazine's distinctive colors and typography, but adding engaging, interactive elements, including animations, slideshows, audio and custom feature packages.
